ANARCHY YOUNG LIONS CHAMPION: ADRIAN HAWKINS
Live Report on October 13 Anarchy Wrestling in Cornelia, GA
From Larry Goodman:
Anarchy Wrestling ran their "go home" show for Fright Night 2012 in Cornelia, GA Saturday night.
It was a strong rebound from a weak show on September 22. The company heads into the 14th annual Fright Night in far better shape than they entered the evening. Seven matches are now in place for Fright Night, and the set ups for all of them worked with the live crowd. TheAnarchy fans were given every indication that the hated Elite and other assorted villains would get what was coming to them. The retribution they’ve been longing for would finally be theirs.
Attendance at the Anarchy Arena was 80. They were livelier and louder than the 80 at the last taping, but it’s still just 80.
The Anarchy show was more calculated than the frenetic go home Rampage Pro put on last Sunday, For effectiveness, I would rate them a dead heat. Regardless of competition from other events, neither Anarchy’s nor RPW’s (90) attendance for their respective go home shows are encouraging signs. If fans don’t turn out for the big shows, it wasn’t for lack of trying by either promotion.
To some extent, the recent dip in Anarchy's momentum has been due to problems that were not of their own making. The company has been struck with an epidemic of injuries, transportation problems and personal issues that have caused booking headaches at every turn.
The show opened with general manager Jerry Palmer in the ring with a partial Elite (Nemesis, Shadow Jackson, Anarchy TV Champion Bo Newsom and Se7en). Palmer thanked Miss Rachael for filling in last time and said she had the night off. Palmer said NWA Anarchy Champion Shaun Tempers also had the night off because he nothing to prove. Palmer said number one contender Brodie Chase could stop calling and crying because he would indeed get his title match at Fright Night. Palmer said Newsom would defend against Billy Buck at Fright Night with the title on the line for only the first 10 minutes. Palmer said the Anarchy Tag Team Champions (Azrael & Slim J) figure out a stipulation or man up and accept a hangman's match at Fright Night. The champions had earned the right to name the stip at the September 22 taping. Palmer said he was sick and tired of Mikael Judas interfering in their matches, so he was ordering a gauntlet match at Fright Night. Judas would have to face Jacoby Boykins then Se7en, then a third surprise opponent if he somehow got past the first two. Palmer said if Judas survived all that, he could have any opponent he wanted (on November 10). For his matchmaking acumen, Palmer was the recipient of a hearty "Jerry sucks" chant.
(1) "The Situation" Buku Dao defeated "The Outlaw" Matt Lancie and "Hotshot" Rick Wilder in 6:05. Three Luke Hawx trainees from the New Orleans area. They worked a less complicated three way, with one guy outside and two guys inside most of the time. The action between Dao and Wilder was technically OK, but their work across like a dance routine, lacking a sense of a real struggle. Lancie destroyed the babys with power moves. Lancie's got the size. What he needs is a character and ring presence. The finishing sequence saw Dao springboard off of Wilder's shoulders for a crossbody on Lancie. Wilder followed with a bicycle kick on Lancie, and Dao caught Wilder with a flying crucifix for the pin.
Postmatch, Urban Assault Squad (Nemesis & Jackson with Palmer) beat the jabronis down. Palmer used Big Nasty on Wilder. Nemesis pretended Dao was Slim J and put a noose around neck. Slim, Azrael and Rev made the save wearing barbed wire attire. Rev was wearing a baseball helmet wrapped in barbed wire. Izzy with barbed wire bat. Slim had the stuff wrapped around his head.
Rev said he made a mistake by trying to beat UAS at their own game (the hangman match with Hate Junkies that proved to be the end of Dany Only), so on Devil's Night, barbed wire it would be. Rev pointed out that there had been only one other barbed wire match in Anarchy history, and his men were in it. "We don't necessarily believe in Mayan prophecies, but we're going to make sure it's the end of the world for you." Not the Rev's best work, but the picture had already been painted. UAS were nutsting bricks.
(2) Bobby Moore defeated "The Supercharged Superstar" Bolt Brady in 8:10. Prematch, Moore got his panties in a wad about the "Barney" chants. Brady is out of Texas. He's a black guy with a lean, muscular build. The name leaves me cold, but there's no question that Brady athletically gifted. He busted out an amazing sequence where he backflipped over the top of Moore, nailed a huracanrana and then a flip dive to the outside. Moore dropped him face first on the apron to take over. They avoided the same old hope spots and cut offs. Brady tried for a springboard lariat that Moore reversed into a short arm clothesline. Brady had Moore in trouble with a double knee strike for a near fall. Moore poked Brady in the eyes, loaded up elbow pad and POW for the 1-2-3. Nice match.
Affable Anarchy owner Franklin Dove informed Moore that he would be facing Seth Delay at Fright Night and the loser of the match would have to wear a Barney costume. Some poor sap came out modeling the getup. Moore said he wanted something in return -- if he won, he wanted Delay to kiss his smelly feet. Dove said OK. This got over beautifully, but since when did Dove regain matchmaking powers?
(3) Young Lion's Champion Adrian Hawkins (with Tommy Penerelli & CB Suave) defeated Kameron Kade via submission in 7:24. Hawkins is the self-proclaimed submission master with the sharpshooter. Kade worked on Hawkins' leg and kept going for submissions, and he was getting more fan support than his previous appearance, so maybe the rub off Seth Delay did some good. Kade got the figure four and the fans were chanting huge for the tap out, before Hawkins made the ropes. fans chanting huge for the tap out before he made the ropes. Kade went back to the well, and Hawkins deftly reversed into the sharpshooter.
Penerelli said he and his partner would smash Vandal & Najasism to smithereens at Fright Night. Penerelli addressed the absence of manager/"Anarchy Talent Coordinator" John Johnson, explaining that JJ was on an extended road trip searching for top talent like he and Suave (Johnson, Anarchy's long-time color commentator recently announced his retirement). Penerelli said there was nobody anywhere that could make Hawkins submit. Mic work may be the strongest part of Penerelli's game.
Cue up the entrance of the Rev, who introduced Strkynyn as "the man that had Hawkins tapping like Gregory Hines on meth last time" (although not in a legal match). Stryknyn's intro got one of the best pops of the night. Penerelli said Stryk would not be facing Hawkins tonight. He offered up Suave instead.
(4) "The Lethal Dose" Stryknyn (with the Rev) defeated CB Suave (with Penerelli & Hawkins) via submission in 6:50. Stryk was up to his old tricks. He went to choke Suave with his belt. Referee Brent Wiley took the belt away so he used a piece of rope instead. Suave ducked a high knee and used a springboard dropkick to send Stryk sprawling to the floor. Suave has a pro wrestler aura. The gold robe and bottle of baby oil work well for his character. Suave’s not a big guy, but he's well put together. Hawkins and Penerelli seized the opportunity, but Rev backed them off with his barbed wire staff. The babyface-starved crowd (none except Stryk wrestled in the first hour of TV) was going nuts for Stryk's comeback. He speared Suave and made him tap to the Tourniquet (his sick variation of the Anaconda Vise).
Postmatch, Stryknyn put Penerelli in the Tourniquet for good measure. Rev said to ensure law and order with the two hemorrhoids, Rico and Pizarelli at Fright Night, he had acquired a man to call it right down the middle...
Todd Sexton strolled down the ramp. Sexton said he helped train both Hawkins and Stryknyn. Sexton said he beat the crap out of Hawkins, who ran away and never came back (an aborted angle from earlier this year). Sexton said he needed Hawkins to come back in the ring and shake Stryk's hand. Hawkins wanted no part of it, but finally said he would if Sexton promised to call it down the middle. Stryk blew his nose into his hand before shaking. Hawkins freaked. Sexton led the crowd in a "tap" chant. Beginning to end, this segment was an unequivocal home run.
End of episode 354, which will air on or around November 3.
(5) Tommy Penerelli (with CB Suave) defeated Anthony Henry in 7:35. Henry was having his way with Penerelli, but he chased after him and got leveled by a Suave clothesline. More dirty work by Suave and Penerelli ensued, but it didn't phase Henry a whole lot. He used a short powerbomb to set up the the Texas Cloverleaf. Penerelli was tapping like mad but Suave had referee Ken Wallace distracted, allowing Hawkins to run out and pull Penerelli over to the ropes. When Henry complained to Wallace, Penerelli rolled him up using the tights.
"Stray Cat" Brodie Chase addressed the crowd. Chase said Palmer left out a couple of facts, like the fact he hadn't uttered a word to Palmer in months that the people didn't hear with their own ears, so Palmer was a liar about the calls. Chase said right now, he had the best winning percentage of anybody at Anarchy. He respected Tempers as champion. He wanted to hurt Palmer and the best way to do it was to take the championship. Chase said he could do if the people got behind him. He didn't care if Palmer brought the entire Elite, because he was going to be all business, and the business was kicking Tempers' ass. Chase thanked the people for believing in him, because he wasn't some cheap politician. He earned his shot. This was a fine promo, the stuff pure babyfaces are made of. With that said, if he beats Tempers for the title, it will go down as one of the greatest upsets in Anarchy history.
(6) Andrew Pendleton III & Brandon Parker defeated Najasism & Vandal in 8:47. Naja & Vandal were eating AP3's lunch. A push up knee strike by Parker turned the tide. Vandal took punishment. There was a moment where Vandal had to put on the brakes because he had daylight to make the tag. Oops. Naja cleaned house with scintillating aerial attack. He went up to to end it, when Suave & Penerelli came out to distract. AP3 hit the ropes to crotch Naja, then pinned him with the Stock Market Crash.
Suave & Penerelli joined in to make it a four-on-two beatdown after the match. Joey Rhymer ran out and hit a flying bodypress on AP3 and was immediately leveled by Parker. Henry singlehandedly cleared the ring. Wolverton announced the dreaded 8 man tag for Fright Night. In this case, though, the fans reacted like they really wanted to see it. Parker reassured his teammates that it would be OK because they were going against one guy and three kids. Ouch.
(7) Mikael Judas & Slim J & Azrael & Billy Buck (with Brodie Chase & The Rev) defeated Shadow Jackson & Nemesis & Se7en & Bo Newsom (with Jerry Palmer) in 15:13. This was a preview of the top three matches at Fright Night all rolled into one. The babyface side dominated early with Newsom getting the worst of it. Slim debuted a standing corkscrew senton and nailed it. The Elite eventually trapped Buck and gave him a beating. Chase and the Rev berated Wiley for his slack officiating. Slim took the hot tag. The tag team champions blitzed Nemesis with double teams, and the match broke down from there. Judas pinned Nemesis with a monster chokeslam, which got a jubilation-filled pop.
Afterward, J gave Nemesis a wicked shot with Rev's barbed wire staff. Nemesis was clutching at his punctured arm. Judas accepted Palmer's challenge and said that after he defeated his Three Stooges, he was choosing Palmer as his opponent, and planned to shove that ax handle straight up his ass.
Episode 355 will air on or around November 10.
