NWA Rampage Pro Wrestling results for May 27, 2012. MEMORIAL MAYHEM
by Daniel Lee
Turnout at bell time was around 100.
“Adorable” Anthony Andrews (w/ Michael Stevens) defeated Darren Dean via pinfall
Referee: Dee Byers
Short opening bout. Marv played some distraction to help Andrews gain advantage long enough to pick up the win.
Anthony Henry defeated Kyle O’Reilly via submission
Referee: Dustin Robinson
Impressive match, though the fans weren’t really reacting to O’Reilly through most of the match. Henry picked up the win using the Cloverleaf.
NWA RPW Tag Team Title Match
Cash Vault (“Hit For Hire” Bobby Moore & Rob Adonis)(w/ Charlie Cash)(C) defeated J-Rod & Frankie Valentine (w/ Billy Knight) via pinfall to retain
Referee: Stan Robinson
Probably the slowest match of the show. Cash Vault gets one over J-Rod when Cash, abusing a distracted referee, slipped a loaded elbow pad into the ring and Moore uses it to knock out J-Rod, allowing Adonis to pick up the pin.
K.C. McKnight defeated “The American Wolf” Davey Richards via pinfall
Referee: Dee Byers
Good, lengthy match. KC picks up the win (surprisingly) with a full nelson Suplex pin.
Sal came out and joined Bill Behrens on commentary, meaning the 4-Way Approved match was likely next up.
4-Way Match – Loser Leaves Jimmy Rave Approved
Corey Hollis defeated Patrick Bentley via pinfall
Referee: Dustin Robinson
The match started with Posey and Chip working together while Bentley and Hollis did the same. A lot of backstabbing happened through the match, with it ultimately ending with Hollis ordering Chip and Posey to help him eliminate finish off Bentley with the triple top rope finish. Bentley, according to the stipulation, is no longer a member of Jimmy Rave Approved.
NWA RPW Television Title Match
Drew Adler (C) defeated Slim Jay via disqualification to retain
Referee: Dee Byers
The match didn’t get too much of a reaction from the crowd, mainly due to Slim Jay not being a familiar face. Despite this, they put on a good match that ends when BFF runs in to attack Adler for the DQ. Slim Jay gets up and helps Adler fight off BFF, and a tag match is promptly started between them.
Small & Tall (Drew Adler & Slim Jay) defeated BFF (“Adorable” Anthony Andrews & “Marvelous” Michael Stevens) via pinfall
Referee: Dee Byers
Crowd was much more alive in this one, with Drew and Marv often competing to see who can garner more of the crowd to their favor (futile attempt for Marv). In the end, a bunch of jumping into the ring action by both teams finishing with a big Drew Drop to Marv for the win. Sal left commentary to celebrate with Drew and head backstage.
Hot Like Lava (Cru Jones & Shaun Banks) defeated Washington Bullets (Jon & Trey Williams) via pinfall
Referee: Stan Robinson
Matches seem to be getting better and better at this point. Bullets and Lava both seem to be supported by different portions of the crowd for this one. The match ends with Cru sneaking a pin on Jon while Trey is distracted in the corner with Banks.
AJ Steele defeated Murder One via disqualification
Guest Referee: Doc Gayton
Another match where there was support for both sides, but there was more favor for AJ. Doc’s apparently more used to being a competitor, as many of the moments where a 5-Count would start he instead got in and did all he could to actually force the competitors apart, though when he did perform the count they would typically break. Murder got himself DQ’d by attacking Doc then using his belt to choke out AJ. Doc ran Murder out of the ring with a steel chair in hand and declared AJ the winner. AJ called Murder out so they could finish what they started, but Murder didn’t answer the call.
Sal came back out for commentary.
NWA RPW Heavyweight Title Match
Kyle Matthews (C) defeated Jimmy Rave via submission
Referee: Dustin Robinson
Best match of the show, and possibly the best RPW’s had so far in the year. Rave played to the crowd at some points, something unexpected for a heel like him. The crowd was, again, split on who they wanted to see walk out with the gold. In the end, Kyle beat the odds of Approved running in to try a distract and interfere scheme, and even a direct shot from Rave with the title belt, and have Rave tap out to the Hidaka Lock.
After the match was another roster-wide celebration of Matthews defending the title. Approved came into the ring to check on Rave, who after sitting there for a bit swiftly got up and went right passed those celebrating strait to Matthews. Right as everyone was edgy, Rave shook Kyle’s hand, showing respect for the man he’s been a rival with for the past 2 years and, for the first time in RPW, beat him in a one on one match.
The celebration was cut short, though. Davey Richards and Kyle O’Reilly came out to talk about how Rave has gone soft and lost the qualities that made him a phenomenon. Rave responds by putting over Matthews while saying that Davey’s Kyle (O’Reilly) was nothing more than a glorified bag boy. Davey and Rave get into a brawl, but the conveniently present roster members pulled them apart. Doc Gayton gets on the mic and said that if Richards and O’Reilly were to come back, they’d take on Rave and Matthews. Richards replied that they would be there as long as the money’s there.
