November 23 Anarchy Wrestling Report from Cornelia, GA
From Larry Goodman:
Anarchy Wrestling presented another night of satisfying pro wrestling entertainment to kick off the holiday season Saturday night in Cornelia, GA.
A crowd of 100 was on hand at the Anarchy Arena. They were responsive all night long. I don't recall any significant dead spots.
Both main events especially well as did Washington Bullets vs. Slim & Iceberg and Kevin Blue's title defense. As solid as this show was in the ring, it was the story advancement and some stellar talk segments that stand out most in my mind.
Jeff G. Bailey came out with Shaun Tempers to side step the fact that Anarchy wasn't delivering the advertised main event (Mikael Judas vs. Se7en). He did a helluva job with an unenviable task. Bailey said Se7en's violent reaction to the atrocity commited against The Elite at Fright Night left more bloody bodies laying in the ring than the finish line of the Boston Marathon. Because he was a kind man with a benevolent heart, Bailey was keeping Se7en away to prevent futher annhilation, and to calm him down, he promised Se7en a heavyweight title shot. But did Judas have the guts to face Se7en on December 14? They didn't have long to wait for the answer.
Judas made his grand entrance. Tempers cowered in fear and pointed his can of Temptation spray at Judas. Judas told Bailey's to get that a-hole out his ring and make sure Se7en was there the next time. Tempers and Bailey both jumped out of the ring. Judas exited out the front door. Bailey got back in and said Judas was lucky he left when did because Tempers would have kicked his ass.
Tempers asked what was left for "The Temptation" after dominating Anarchy for so many years? The answer: the Young Lion's Championship only because he had never tried for it. Tempers said Dango Wynn was the current number one contender as a result of winning a Rumble match at the last show, but you never know how good you are one on one until you've been in the ring with The Man. Leading to...
(1) Shaun Tempers (with Jeff G. Bailey) defeated Dango Wynn in 8:37 to become the number one contender for the Young Lion's Championship. This was OK. Wynn has retained the athleticism of his youth. His strikes looked feather light in spots. Tempers used old school forearm smashs. Right out the 70s except he flexed his bicep before delivering them. Bailey interjected himself into the match. Tempers said he had Wynn right where he wanted him. You know how that works out. Wynn had Tempers up for his finisher but fell victim to Bailey's distraction and Tempers' hangman's neckbreaker.
Jonathan Feltner announced that Kevin Blue would defend the Young Lion's Championship against former champion CB Suave on 12/14 if he was successful in his title defense tonight. So let me get this straight -- the number one contender has to wait in line behind two other guys? Saving that match for the big show eh?
(2) Slim J & Iceberg defeated Washington Bullets (Jon & Trey Williams) in 12;10 I've said it before, but it bears repeating: The Bullets have developed an amazing heel act. They opened with a comedy test of strength spot where J tickled Trey and gave him a ttity twister. Trey's facial expressions were hilarious. Slim and Iceberg torched Jon's arm. Iceberg no sold Jon's punches and decked him with one shot. Iceberg was moving better than during his last tour of duty here. Trey spread the ropes to spill J and the heat was on. The Bullets went for the ultra cheap victory by count out. A nice scumbag twist. Iceberg did a slow burn that boiled when referee Mark Cooper missed a legit tag. J caused a Bullets screw up, as Trey kicked his brother in the head leading to a wild and wooly hot tag sequence. Iceberg splashed Trey for the pin.
Miss Rachael and her latest acquisition, Joey Rhymer came to the ring. Rachael nailed her promo. She knew the fans were wondering what possessed Rhymer to betray Todd Sexton and hook up with her explaining that Rhymer was an up and comer, while Sexton was in the sunset of his career. She accused Sexton of stealing the spots of younger guys because it had to be all about him. Rachael alleged that Adrian Hawkins, Bo Newsom and Todd's brother Brent were all gone from Anarchy due to Sexton's jealousy. Rhymer would show Sexton what pro wrestling was like in the prime of life.
(3) Todd Sexton defeated Joey Rhymer (with Miss Rachael) by DQ in 4:05. Sexton lit into Joey. pulled him up by ears and fishooked him, then chopped him until his chest was beet red. At one point, Sexton suplexed Rhymer while standing on Rachael's hand. Sexton had Rhymer in a guillotine when he was attacked by BJ Hancock and Anthony Henry.
Postmatch, Rhymer disabled Sexton with a shoulder lock. Steven Walters and Seth Delay came to Sexton's aid but were beaten back by the numbers game. Former Anarchy triple crown winner Ace Rockwell made a surprise return and cleared the ring. Rachael and her crew wanted no part of this action, but Anarchy owner Franklin Dove had other ideas and ordered a six man match.
(4) Joey Rhymer & BJ Hancock & Anthony Henry (with Miss Rachael) defeated Ace Rockwell & Seth Delay & Steven Walters in 16:44. Frenetic action in this match with six way brawls breaking out a regular basis. Walters backdropped Rhymer over the top rope onto his partners and the three Anarchy vets offended Rachael's tender sensibilities with swivel hips in triplicate. The faces were cruising until the heels got heat on Delay at the seven minute mark. In the midst of another wild brawl, Hancock gave Walters a piledriver on the ramp. Anarchy personnel swarmed around Walters as the match continued 3 on 2 with palpable concern for Walters' well being. Delay hit the Kool Krusher on Henry, and Sexton came out with his shoulder bandaged to take the hot tag. A stellar train of big move ensued. After a blind tag by Rhymer, Hancock did a number on Sexton's injured shoulder and Rhymer got the pin. pickings for Rhymer. This match could have been a cluister with so many moving parts, but it worked out just fine. The piledriver on Walters and the way it was sold was an unexpected great touch and furthered Hancock's rep as a cold blooded assassin. With his newly found agressive streak, Hancock is emerging as a force to be reckoned with.
Sexton said he called some friends after what Rachael pulled on him the last time, and introduced Rockwell to a "welcome back" chant. Rockwell said he didn't quite know what he was getting into when he got Sexton's call. Rockwell said they paved the way for Rachael's guys and this was not the way it was going down. Rockwell promised to insert Rachael's clipboard somewhere where she would not be able to remove it. The Anarchy fans like this story as do I. Rachael isn't completely out in left field with her claims. Delay and Sexton have past issues with Rachael and Rockwell has one now. While the Anarchy vets are not in prime shape, they're not old by any means and can all really go.
(5) Team Anarchy (Brandon Parker & Vandal & Alex Avgerinos & Mikael Judas) defeated Team Texas (Rudy Boy Gonzalez & Laredo Kid & Galan Ramirez & Terrell Tempo) in 10:30. Rudy Boy issued a challenge to Anarchy's best. Three second stringers came out instead. Gonzalez noted they were a man short. Cue up Judas' music. The other guys didn't make much impression one way or another. The match was, however, a fine way to underscore the Priest of Punishment's dominance over mortal men. Judas tagged in against RBG early in the match. RBG begged off. The Texans beat up Vandal until Judas cleaned house with the hot tag. Gonzalez sicked his minions on Judas. They couldn't keep the big man down and he leveled them one by one before wasting a wide-eyed Gonzalez with the chokeslam.
(6) Kevin Blue defeated Tommy Penirelli to retain the Young Lion's Championship in 6:55 . Penirelli said Blue was dealing with one pissed off New York Italian who was going to snap his ankle. Tempers joined Bret Wolverton in the booth as the special guest commentator. . Penirelli jumped the bell. That didn't work out so well, but he eventually got the upper hand and went after Blue's ankle with a vengeance. Penirelli is playing up the Italian gimmick bigtme. His new gear with the Italian colors works much better for him. Blue showed resiliency but the ankle was giving him fits. Penirelli applied an ankle lock. Blue wouldn't quit and caught Penirelli out of nowhere with an inside cradle. Simple, short and effective.
Temper grabbed the belt, used it as a mirror and anointed it with the Temptation spray. Blue was selling the ankle in a believable way as he made his way to the back. Blue continues to get over well with the Anarchy fans and is getting more confident in the ring. Tempers strikes me as the perfect opponent to further elevate Blue.
The Anarchy Tag Team Champions Urban Assault Squad (Nemesis & Shadow Jackson) entered the ring. Jackson said the greatest tag team in the history of the building was back from vacation -- Nemesis from a tour of the Orient and Jackson from a trip to Miami to work on his tan. Jackson said they were hoping some team would emerge as the number one contenders in their absence. Instead, they found nothing but the tag team division they had decimated over the last year. Jackson turned the mic over to his Rhodes scholar partner for some intellectual thoughts. UAS decided they would choose the number one contenders on December 14. Slim J & Iceberg made their way into the ring. J said what about us? UAS huddled up and said nope, so it remains to be seen how this plays out at the next taping.
(7) Bobby Moore defeated Billy Buck in a Falls Count Anywhere match to take a 1-0 lead their best of three series to determine the new Anarchy TV Champion in 17:33. This match was Moore's choice. They got off to a fast and furious start with Buck jumping out on top. Buck had Moore's Big Bossman slide out punch scouted and posted him. Buck bashed Moore's head with a trash can that was conveniently stowed under the ring. Poppa Buck rung the ring bell on Moore's head. They brawled their way through a section of ringside seats. Buck applied a figure four on one of the bleacher benches. That was different. They made their way to the concession stand where Buck tossed an urn of hot coffee in Moore's face. Buck put the trash can over Moore's head and whacked it with a chair. The battle moved back inside the ring. Buck ducked the loaded elbow pad. Moore ducked the superkick. The psychotic spot of the night saw Buck give Moore a Samoan Drop off the ropes onto a ladder bridged across two chairs. Neither man was getting up after that. As Moore was being helped to the back, Buck came to life and went for a Samoan Drop on the ramp. Moore escaped and nailed Buck with the loaded elbow pad to score the pinfall on the hardwood floor.
Afterward, both men were down on the floor in agony surrounded by Anarchy personnel. There have been better matches in this epic series. They've set a very high bar. That said, the finish was everything it needed to be. Match number two takes place on December 14.
